You can turn off a national characters. (diacritics)
I would like to off a national characters in the sms or choose this option in settings.
We do use accent marks in our writing. However, we don't use those when texting. So, I think it's better to separate them to help make the prediction more accurately.
Remove diacritics
Its very needd to have option which should chenge polisch letters into ASCII.
For e.g. if we use only one polish letters in SMS, one SMS can have only about 80 leters insted of 160. So it will be good idea (is is in another keyboard or sms program) to replace polish letters by ASCII.
There is all list of polish letters that should be replaceb by:
ą => a
ć => c
ę => e
ł => l
ź => z
ż => z
ń => n
ó => o
For example in Czech langugage if you type in SMS "áčěš etc." then max lenght of SMS is about 60 chars.
After we type in a word for example cześć the keyboard will change it into czesc.It saves sms a lot.Not all phones have it built in.
I use Czech keyboard both for SMS and Emails.. I'd like to have an option to turn off Czech accented characters in SMSs. Both in prediction and as secondary letters after long press.
Hello! Can you add diacritic symbols turn off option in new version of Swiftkey?
Hodilo by sa nastavenie vypnutia slov z diakritikou, lebo potom sa predražujú sms-spravy
Viz. Headline
I would be forever grateful if you could add a feature (for each language) so that one can toggle between using diacritics or using the equivalent letter from the English alphabet (e.g 'â' and 'ă' turn into 'a' and 'ț' turns into 't')

please put romania language but without the diacritics and I will buy your program.. I can use romania language because with diacritics a sms is a lot smaller than a regular one that has 160 character.
Can you make it to count 120 characters as one message and not 60??
Diacritics language can take many characters in the sms message and cost much more money. Thx.
Allow to strip UTF8 characters so SMS messages won't be shortened.
I´d very appreciate, and I guess not just myself, possibility to exclude diacritics symbols (Czech, Slovak, ...) from the suggesting words in SMS editors. This functionality is already offered by SlideIT keyboard, take a inspiration. Thx and good luck.
Please add an option to strip International utf8 characters
Give us a choice to use the standard Qwerty keyboard on Sebian and on English so it looks the same when I'm typing on either language. I don't mind sacraficing the Č,Ć,Ž,Đ,Š and others.
for example: replace the diacritcs for suggested words
Hello, I would like to start by saying i live in Romania and I use the dictionary for the Romanian Language. But when I write SMS or on Facebook or whatever I don't use the specific letters from our alphabet ( ex: ţ,ă,â,ş ), I would like a setting to turn off specific letter and use normal letter ţ=t, ă=a, â=a ,ş=s. I hope I explained corectly.
And the second thing i would consider an improovement is to use the numbers in the second tab after letters (symbols tab) like they are normally in android. I like the normal layout of the android symbols tho the long press is a nice addition.
Thanks and hope I didn't confuse you with my way of explaining stuff, lol.
Have a great day;)
the diacritics corrupts the sms texts, and the receiver, if he hasn't romanian language on his phone, can't see the words. pls remove diactrics from romanian language pack
People in Serbia usually use letters c s z d instead of č ć š ž đ because it is our habit and if we type sms with each, and we can only type 67 characters per message, so make a dictionary without serbian letters, and and add qwerty layout to serbian language :)
Include "cheaper SMS function" = remove letters with diacritics before sending SMS.
I had this function on my Xperia phone before, but it disappeared after update to ICS.
Please create Czech language without diacritic (ěščřžýáíéůú) - its better for writing SMS
Can you please add an option do disable diacritics in SMS applications? Slide-IT keyboard has a feature like that.
Some of us using a 2nd language, don't want to use diacritics in SMS like ... ăîâțș .. These take extra characters from the total number of characters allowed in one SMS.
Thank you... and keep up the good job.
option to cut the polish symbol like: ąćę....żź to ace...zz.
Offer language pack for Czech without accented characters or enable turning-off of them when writing sms. SMS with accented chars must be shorter and thus more expensive. I saw similar request for Polish currently under review.
Add possibility to write with or without diacritics in same language and learned rules
I'd like to suggest a way to disable special characters when typing sms (and just sms). an sms with special characters supports just 70 instead of 160.
The problem(s):
1 - Romanian extended characters ş and ț are not seen correctly by other phones (when sending SMS).
2 - When using any of romanian extended characters: ăîâşţ , the maximum character number of the SMS (160) becomes almost half (70)
Romanian language allows easily using the words without the 5 extended characters, by replacing them with the corresponding ASCII letters ( ă->a , î->i, â->a; ş->s; ţ->t ). In any unofficial text, this kind of replacement is fully accepted, and it's technically simpler because of using only ASCII characters.
Possible solutions:
1 - Create a second Romanian dictionary by only making 5 simple replacements in the existing Romanian dictionary: ă->a , î->i, â->a; ş->s; ţ->t
2 - Add an option to allow any user to define character replacements; These definitions should override the dictionary. In this way each user could define something like: replace "ă" with "a"
3 - Add the possibility to modify the dictionary on a computer, by creating a small software which dumps the content of the dictionary in text format, and then (after the changes made by the user) loads the text back and re-creates the dictionary file which should be uploaded and used by SwiftKey
From my point of view this is a very simple modification, but with very important impact for Romanian users of Swiftkey. Also the possibility to allow the users to help on creating the dictionary would improve, from my point of view, the usability of SwiftKey.
Best Regards,
Adrian
Great app, BUT in Czech we need possibility to cut of the diacritics before sending SMS.
Otherwise we pay for about 3 SMS insted of one because the diacritics takes the place!
Please implement it and whole Czech Android nation will be grateful! :)
Michal
A switch to turn on and off the accents in when writing an sms would be very useful. The suggestions could be with accent, but the selected word entered without accents. The accent chars make the sms unicode which has double the price then a normal text message. For example in Hungarian the ö ü é á í ú ó characters should be replaced by o u e a I u o
Thanks
I am Polish but I believe similar problem exists in every language which uses its own characters in addition to the Latin ones (Slavonic languages, Lithuanian, Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian, etc.).
When I write using Latin characters only in text messages (SMSes) I am charged every 160 characters. If I use the Polish ones - every 70 characters. It means that such text messages are over twice more expensive.
So I wish SwiftKey would implement a feature which would substitute every ą with a, every ę with e, and so on. I do not want any żźćń or so in my text messages because it makes my bills higher only. MMSes do not matter so much - international characters do not mean higher bills.
There are languages with accent but it's not sure that I want to write with accent. A feature would be great wherewith I could turn on/off the accents.
When we use it, then SMS becomes only 60 characters long instead of 160!
Make your keyboard look clean without symbols above letters and for croatian language make an option to download dictionary without special Croatian letters ("č","ć","đ","š","ž"), because those letters take more characters than one in sms.
Please add an option to use the keyboard without diacritical signs. SMS's with these signs can be only 70 signs long.
introduction of the first Polish character in sms message takes 96 characters of the 160 possible inclusion in one sms. We need a option that turns off the keyboard entirely Polish characters in ordinary letters a, e, o, c, z, s, l, n.
I think writing will be 5 times faster and 5 times more comfortable in the Polish language
example (Polish):
Cześć (Hi) --> Czesc
Żółw (turtle) --> Zolw
etc
This option is very important couse SMS with foreing characters is
shortened to only 60 digts!
There 's an android problem that google hasn't been able to solve when typing characters like á, é, ñ... Can we have an option to auto eliminate accents in foreign languages when typing SMS's?
It would be great if the app could replace letters with diacritics (ěščřžýáíé etc.) with the corresponding ASCII symbols (escrzaie). It would more than double the SMS capacity (from 70 back to 160 chars) for the users of languages with special symbols.
In some languages like Spanish or French there are lots characters which use more data in an SMS than normalones, so if you put one or two of those letters you have less space per message to write. Idea: get a special SMS mode on which suggested words won't have those characters (so "j'était là' in French would be "J'etait la"), maybe a button which turns the text into "special character-free" text, or autodetect SMS composition and replace special character with normal ones.
This has now been planned for development. We will update the issue again when we are ready to test.
This suggestion is now under review. Thanks for your input and watch this space for more updates :-)

Hello, i really need this! I write A LOT of SMSs. Swiftkey keeps announcing me how many characters it has saved me from writing...but more than half of them i had to delete and re-write because of diacritics. This is really getting frustrating and i am thinking of changing the keyboard. Please implement this!

Wow, exactly 2 years from the idea and they still inform it is planned for development... I'd really like this and was planning to buy anything that makes this correction possible.

If you do this functionality to swiftkey for SMS. I will buy your software. Until now it is really annoying. I think many new people would buy it with that function.

I bought your app as I think it is really amazing! Please, implement to turn off diacritics and let us choose, whether to disable it only in SMS app, or everywhere. SLIDEIT already has this option!
Then, it will be PERFECT. -

I've been waiting for this feature for a long time, what's stopping you from implementing it?

For me, this is the only thing missing from SwiftKey. With this it would literally be perfect. Because of national characters I can't use predictions properly.
Please implement this. I am willing to pay extra to get it.

I am not a programmer. However I believe that for some languages there is an easy way. For example, for Romanian you can create a language file like *Romanian - no diacritics* to be downloaded, in which to replace special chars with simple correspondents (like ă with a, ț with t etc). I can guarantee that 99.9% from Romanian don't use diacritics anyway. This quick and dirty solution will let anyone choose the preferred setup.

Uninstalled until this is fixed. I cannot use swiftkey with default sms program, cause it makes sms's 70 characters. How long will this be "planned"??

This is utterly unacceptable that such an important feature is still being only planned after so much time had already passed. I love SwiftKey for what it's got, but its Flow is useless without diactrics removal.

This is an extremely important feature. I can't believe my crappy 8 year old phone I replaced with an Android device had this, and a flashy new HTC doesn't.

With this feature SwiftKey would be perfect. Without it it's very annoying to use with non-English languages.
