lag when typing
Lagging when keyboard is being closed or going back to the home screen.
I'm a very fast typer. But now I have to type very slowly in order for SwiftKey to recognize the key press. It almost always misses the first letters of all my words. Even though I can see that the correct key was pressed. (the key pops out when I press but doesn't appear in the text)
Swiftkey gets slower and slower after months of usage. It is purely a swiftkey issue. Modern hardware like quad-core, 2GB RAM (GT-I9305N, standard swiftkey) and Nexus 10 (tablet swiftkey) both are affected. So it seems kick-ass hardware can't save us from bad coding. Something needs to be done with these slowdowns. This has got so worse, I'm looking for replacement. Please fix this and make it usable again.
Phone lags for a few minutes after opening messages from notification bar, only from last updates. Im using a s3 also predictions not always loading whilst sending texts
It's a great app, but now it lags and takes a while to catch up to how fast I type.
My phone will lag when I'm typing and then it will slow down
Lags like crazy on the Google Drive app on my HTC One X, yet not on the Google Drive app for my Nexus 7.
When I press the home button on my galaxy s 3 the keyboard font stays on my current home screen for a couple of seconds. And when I am composing a text the letter buttons often freeze and freaks out.
A friend of mine actually thought her phone is broken (or became really slow), because it stuttered like crazy. She did not use SwiftKey and I made her switch. I only type in portrait mode because the performance is much better.
So i have to press really hard on the button for it to work, I want my rapid back, this is so laggy and less convenient :-\ feels like an ancient phone and I have the Galaxy nexus, it shouldn't be this way :'(
My SwiftKey keyboard keeps lagging... This issue has to be fixed!
I think there's a minor bug. Sometimes there's a small lag as I'm typing (fast typer) and it enters the value as if it's long pressed. So instead of "yes", it'll put down "y3s". Lol
I just purchased SwiftKey, comiing from the beta. With the same settings, I found it with a little bit of lag when typing. I'm not quick on typing anyway but I found that the keyboard miss some typing, if I press say 5 letters, I get 3 or 4 letters many times (not only on the predictions but even on the first field). Tried disable haptick feedback and typing style with no effects. I didn't find that lag on the beta version. My phone is SGS2 2.3.3 stock. Thanks.
We recently published an update of SwiftKey 188.8.131.52. Reduced lag and better overall performance was one of the many things that was addressed in this release.
In the event that you are experiencing significant lag in that release, please create a new post containing relevant details in our public forum at support.swiftkey.net to bring it to our attention.
Thanks very much.
Also experience significant lag.
GT-I9103 with Android 4.4
I've been using Swiftkey for more than a couple of years... but i'm witnessing this lag lately.... Most of the times, the keystrokes are just missed ... ! I'm on Nexus 4 kitkat 4.4.4

So why is this marked as completed when there's a full year of comments saying it isn't? I know a few $$ isn't a lot of money, but it's money, and we paid for a working app. I've upgraded my phone and the app runs *slower*. This seems backwards. Can we get someone else to respond or is this even read by anyone at SwiftKey??

Extreme lag when typing has been resolved for me on my Galaxy Note 8 by changing a simple setting.
Go under Accessibility >> Magnification Gestures (which zooms in & out of the screen with a triple-tap).
I just turned off this setting (which is on by default) and now my SwiftKey typing lag is gone and I don't have to use the stock keyboard anymore. :)
On Ascend P6 (4.2 B132 ROM) the typing became laggy with the new update.
On the nexus7 I have huge problems with lag especially in long text files, in more than one app. The same files are fine on my S3 mini (on which SwiftKey is hyper responsive).
WHEN are you gonna fix the lagging? It's getting worse with every update -.-
SK is one of my fav apps, but the latest update makes the delay even longer. Usually if i type again right after i hit send button in all chatting apps i only skip 1 letter, now i can loose 1 short word. It's really annoying. I rather not update the apps if i know this case would happen.
So, you should open this case again since the solution given was not solve this issue. As a matter of fact that the newest update make the lag even worst
I agree with everyone. Since the update, it is lagging very badly on my s4. Didn't do this bef
A friend and I tested my problem below.
Version 4.XX is a lot faster than version 5.xx.
My friend used a HTC ONE (m7) Max
FIX THIS swiftkey! I spend 4 Euro for your app...
This thread exists since june 2012 -.-"
I have still the problem, where the first word or letters not register.
Other keyboards do not have this problem.
Any ideas, downgrade possibilities?
I have Swiftkey 184.108.40.206
LG G2 on Android 4.4.2.
I also have the same lag problem where the first 1 or 2 words would not register.
I've tried other keyboards and the default samsung keyboard on my Note 2 and did not experience any lag.
Glad I found this! Thought it was just me... Keyboard has become so laggy.. Often it won't even catch my first word /swipe. SK is a great product, but unfortunately I must go back to stock keyboard. Word prediction has got worse is become frustrating to type. At times won't even recognise a basic word I swyped.
Such a shame, will have to return to SwiftKey at a later date when this has been resolved.
I have the same exact problem on my VZW Galaxy S3 running the most recent version of Swiftkey. It is so laggy and slow to come up that I have to uninstall it again. I thought it would be better this time too.

This is so funny. I was about to sell my device, and it turns out it was SwiftKey that was causing the lag that made the device so annoying. Who knew the keyboard would have such a big influence on performance? Back to Google Keyboard for me. I wonder if its because my personal Swiftkey dictionary is large from years of use?
I definitely notice more lag in the last two versions of SK before that weren't there before. I would love if it could be rectified but doing some reading its been doing this for a while on certain phones. I have a GS3 non rooted on VZW running 4.3 and SK ver220.127.116.114

Using Version 4.5 with emoji and optional 5th number row here, Updated 3/17/2014, and three previous beta versions. I also have the paid version installed. HTC One, Sense 5.5, Android 4.4.2.
This latest beta version and the previous version has a serious lag between tapping the keys and displaying the characters. It may have occurred since the latest Android and Sense firmware updates. In any case, the problem is serious enough that I may have to use a different keyboard, after enjoying Swiftkey for over three years now on my HTC One and my HTC Evo before this. Please fix this ASAP. It is NOT fixed in the current version.

I had this issue and I was able to resolve it by disabling the 3-tap shortcut on my nexus 10 in the accessibility settings (the setting that allows the user to zoom into a part of the screen). No idea why it was only an issue for swift key.

Still getting lag, when initializing they keyboard, and up to a few minutes after.
All : this is Scott. I've been commenting on the lag issue with swift key for over a year. I just noticed that the SK marketing group changed all of my earlier comments to "Anonymous " . Disappointing.
The swift key lag continues into the new version. The problem has not been corrected. I just bought a Note 8 and have the same problems with the tablet version.
I don't have any special apps running.... I don't play games on my phone. I am a normal user. Yet, the lag issues continue. This is beyond maddening.
I've clearly explained to the swift key team that the problem seems to exist within the sync function in an email application - exchange server or Gmail. The lag seems to be MUCH worse when typing in email applications versus texting. So I can only deduce that that the swift key app does not play well with the smartphone when the phone communicates with an external server.
PS - the autocorrect function is getting worse on each subsequent release..... Just another annoyance.
I am hoping that the problems get fixed. SK is still a great app...... But they will go to the blackberry pile if a better typing application comes out.
The lag issues are not acceptable
