lag when typing
Lagging when keyboard is being closed or going back to the home screen.
I'm a very fast typer. But now I have to type very slowly in order for SwiftKey to recognize the key press. It almost always misses the first letters of all my words. Even though I can see that the correct key was pressed. (the key pops out when I press but doesn't appear in the text)
Swiftkey gets slower and slower after months of usage. It is purely a swiftkey issue. Modern hardware like quad-core, 2GB RAM (GT-I9305N, standard swiftkey) and Nexus 10 (tablet swiftkey) both are affected. So it seems kick-ass hardware can't save us from bad coding. Something needs to be done with these slowdowns. This has got so worse, I'm looking for replacement. Please fix this and make it usable again.
Phone lags for a few minutes after opening messages from notification bar, only from last updates. Im using a s3 also predictions not always loading whilst sending texts
It's a great app, but now it lags and takes a while to catch up to how fast I type.
My phone will lag when I'm typing and then it will slow down
Lags like crazy on the Google Drive app on my HTC One X, yet not on the Google Drive app for my Nexus 7.
When I press the home button on my galaxy s 3 the keyboard font stays on my current home screen for a couple of seconds. And when I am composing a text the letter buttons often freeze and freaks out.
A friend of mine actually thought her phone is broken (or became really slow), because it stuttered like crazy. She did not use SwiftKey and I made her switch. I only type in portrait mode because the performance is much better.
So i have to press really hard on the button for it to work, I want my rapid back, this is so laggy and less convenient :-\ feels like an ancient phone and I have the Galaxy nexus, it shouldn't be this way :'(
My SwiftKey keyboard keeps lagging... This issue has to be fixed!
I think there's a minor bug. Sometimes there's a small lag as I'm typing (fast typer) and it enters the value as if it's long pressed. So instead of "yes", it'll put down "y3s". Lol
I just purchased SwiftKey, comiing from the beta. With the same settings, I found it with a little bit of lag when typing. I'm not quick on typing anyway but I found that the keyboard miss some typing, if I press say 5 letters, I get 3 or 4 letters many times (not only on the predictions but even on the first field). Tried disable haptick feedback and typing style with no effects. I didn't find that lag on the beta version. My phone is SGS2 2.3.3 stock. Thanks.
We recently published an update of SwiftKey 220.127.116.11. Reduced lag and better overall performance was one of the many things that was addressed in this release.
In the event that you are experiencing significant lag in that release, please create a new post containing relevant details in our public forum at support.swiftkey.net to bring it to our attention.
Thanks very much.

I have a Nexus 7 2012 in 4.4 and it's still too long to open, especially with hangout.
I tried the stock keyboard again and it's much faster.
But I really like SwiftKey predictions and flow, so I still use it and make some meditation to not throw my tablet when I want to write something.
Once loaded SwiftKey run pretty well.
Keep in mind that the SSD of the Nexus 7 is pretty poor (~10-20 mo/s) and it can explain the loading time.
Maybe the prediction engine can be loaded once the keyboard showed.
Thank you for your software :-)
I am also still having the same problem. Only since the newest update, the keyboard takes an extra moment to come up, but then needs 5 or 6 seconds or so until I can even begin to type a message or press the mic key for speech-to-text. I rue the day I updated. Any way to revert to the old version? It was working perfectly fine. Please help, I'm about ready to uninstall and give up.

I stopped cloud sync and will see if that speeds it up. Next step will be to disable the cloud account but loose the customization. Hope it is resolved soon.

I have a Galaxy S4 and the lag is pretty bad.
The first version that I had of swiftkey was great but now there is zero prediction and it skips keys that I type. It used to work great but now its barely usable.... what has changed??
It lags behind 5 or 10 seconds. What is this?
Most recently it is much slower than it ever has been before.
I have a Samsung and this keyboard does indeed lag a hell of a lot.
love the keyboard, BUT commented
I have the galaxy s3 and was very pleased with the free trial edition, until it ran out a month or so ago.
I bought the full version a few days ago and it is very laggy. it's incredibly annoying waiting 10+seconds for it to allow me to type because it's too busy lagging.
it lags when someone texts me continually, when I open a text, and right after I send a text. this is quite a nuisance.
The latest update for swift key does NOT fix the lag issues and also degrades the prediction performance.
When used with the stock email application for Samsung galaxy 3 and Samsung galaxy 4, the lag is unbearable after a few days of use. The app seems to lag whenever the email app pings the server for updated emails...... The lag is horrendous. I am 10 letters ahead of swift key
In addition, the prediction engine has degraded. My error rate has increased significantly. The SK error reports confirm this - at best, SK is correctingg 30%...... It used to run at 50%
All in all, the level of frustration in this app is just not worth it...... I've been complaining for months. No one seems to be listening
Waiting for Google to improve their keyboard.... It will be an easy switch

I've got a Nexus 7 (2012) edition and I have moved back to the stock keyboard as SwiftKey is just too laggy.

Lag while doing anything has been pretty horrendous for a while.
I really love Swiftkey, and have been using it for two years, but I've now switched back to the Google keyboard. Having a bunch of great features does nothing for me when it takes 3 seconds to open the keyboard and it constantly closes for no reason or crashes apps.
I reloaded the current version of Swift key 3 days ago...... Samsung galaxy III, 2 GB memory, cached cleaned, memory cleaned, latest android OS version.
After 72 hrs, typing in my exchange app (stock app), is noticeably lagging.
I get through a paragraph and then the next sentence lags by a couple letters. The haptic feedback also lags.
For current SK users, this is no surprise. The surprise (with the new version of Swift Key) comes when you use the stock messaging app and the browser.
SK mysteriously shuts down at random with the messaging app. About twice a day
The stock browser crashes a few times a day when I am typing in the search bar.
Remove Swift key...... All the problems go away.
Thanks to Nick and others, below, for continuing to outlin the problems with this app.
Swift Key - please pay attention. You have a core group of people that want your app to work. We continue to criticize because we want you to succeed.
However, the app is just not tolerable in its current form. If a competitor comes in with a better app, you are going to lose. And all your marketing dollars will go out the Window.
I continue to try to use your app and reload it every week. Why? Because the prediction is great. But having to reload an app every week is ridiculous.
When we stop complaining, you will have a much more serious problem. And that time is within 12 months, at the current level of consumer frustration.
SK has slowed my Nexus 7 and Galaxy 4 down to intolerable levels. A great idea with piss-poor execution will get you nowhere. Remember Friendster? Yeah, me neither.
Just to update on my previous post , I have disabled the swiftkey keyboard and am using the default android one and it is like my phone has received an upgrade. Swiftkey was more than just being a poor keyboard, it was lagging my whole phone, I had forgotten how responsive it actually was, the stock keyboard is infinity superior to swiftkey in it's current form as it can actually be used. I will not using or recommending swiftkey any time soon, as long as this issue remains.
This issue has been present for the past few months and has been getting worse, The Swiftkey app was always up to date, and a phone factory reset did not help. Phone is a HTC Sensation XE
I am having to remove and back to stock. I am fed up of waiting 10 seconds for it to catch up every 2 seconds of typing just to fight with it as I try and correct the errors. I even wiped phone thinking it was to blame. This has been written in swift and has taken about 15mins due to me having to edit the missed characters and words, ffs that is 14 mins of pain!

I'm sorry to say this issue is *NOT* fixed. If anything, as other users state, it is worse!
Previous versions were just as bad so it's nothing new.
Last night I was using SwiftKey to type in Google Drive and it was nigh on unusable. It missed out characters and was lagging so much I had to switch to another keyboard. I do a lot of editing on the go on my phone especially in Google Drive and have always found SwiftKey to be brilliant as I do type less, say more.
I've used SwiftKey religiously for three years ever since I moved to Android and until recently I've never had such a problem. I cannot praise SwiftKey enough for it's amazing prediction and how much it helps in cutting down the amount I type. But when you're constantly backspacing to correct errors it just isn't worth it.
Just after SwiftKey Cloud came out of beta and became the latest version, it was wonderful. The lag had truly disappeared and I could type in Google Drive to my heart's content with no lag. But it's got progressively worse until last night I finally admitted this couldn't continue.
I'm sorry to say until this issue is resolved properly I'm going to have to think seriously about not using SwiftKey at all. In Google Drive it was literally hopeless. Even in other apps I've detected a slowdown that is gradually getting very irritating.
Is there anything I can do to try and help this issue? Please tell me there is, or get it fixed!
As I said, I'm a long-standing and ardent SwiftKey user, but when something causes this much pain, one has to stop.
Ok...I'll have to comment one more time on the lag issue.
As Kaleb mentions below, the lag is now WORSE than it was before. In addition, the keyboard now behaves erratically when using the stock email application on the Samsung. (Exchange app)
Shuts down unexpectedly.
Again - this is a great app but I am shocked that the app still buggy and causes significant lag in the most popular phone on the market.
Using swift key in a Samsung is like putting 87 octane gas in a Ferrari. You can only go 30
miles an hour

I have the same issue with Galaxy S4. Specially with Whatsapp. After typing for few minutes, then swiftkey starts lagging, and sometimes not recognising key presses. It get's really really annoying and frustrating.
Samsung Keyboard does not have this problem.
This should be a priority 1 issue to resolve. If a keyboard can't type properly what good is that keyboard? Please fix it.
