Option to disable auto-space after punctuation and/or prediction
Would really like the option do disable/enable auto-space after punctuation (.,!), particularly period. Would make entering e.g. adresses and version number strings (which I do a lot) much less of a hassle.
And related, an option to do the same for prediction: Some languages, e.g. Swedish, uses composite words (combining word stems/lexemes into one word) extensively.
I type on my phone like I do with my keyboard. Inserting a space after a full stop or comma, or prediction is confusing for myself, and I'm sure many other users too. Please consider giving us the option to disable this.
Important and simple thing, please add option to disable autospace.
I would choose whether to or not automatic space after the "."
In the case of manual composition of emotional is uncomfortable!
Without the option of disabling it it is extremely frustrating to type on
a button to disable the auto space after predictions or puntuactions
Is it possible to have it so an automatic space isnt inserted after a punctuation mark? I find myself constantly have double spaces.. It would be nice to be able to turn that off..
An Option to disable the automatic "space" after entering a point "." would be very nice :-) The automatic space is annoying if i enter an IP Address. In SMS i'll try to use as less Spaces as possible, to keep the 160 characters :-)
So many times do I accidentally add insert the words "I" and "and" because it adds a space after punctuation. It is absolutely maddening, I almost in installed the app.
The automatic spacing is an incredibly annoyance. Every autocorrection and punctuation mark I make ends up with two spaces after it. Please allow us to disable this!
disable autospace after period. for emails with periods in it, or passwords.
Example:
If SwiftKey doesn't know an email is typed it inserts space after period: test. Mail@test.net.
Give us full functionality over auto-spacing. It keeps adding a space at the end of every quotation mark and after every hyphen. It also keeps adding a double-space after every period; it needs to stop doing this!
When you type and Web sit address. The auto space automatically place the words as soon as I press "." So you can't put .com
Please add configuration to stop adding spaces after predictions and parentheses. I think the backspace is my most used key.
My email is first name period last name, I type things like VB.NET often. Every time a period is used the app auto-spaces. This means I have to back-space often. I would like to be able to turn off the auto-space after punctuation.
I would like the option to toggle automatic insertion of space after words & punctuation. I waste several hundred keystrokes daily deleting spaces I didn't type, especially since my email address has 2 periods.
I've really struggled when entering info, particularly email addresses, into forms using chrome beta. Keeps auto correcting with capitals and spaces after periods (full stops)
I see that it is disabled when typing numbers now but it still needs to have option to disable completely or auto disable when typing negative numbers as well. I run spread sheets and my formulas do not work properly. If I type a positive number it adds but when I put the - in front of a number string it reads as text and automatically enters a space after the decimal and will not subtract unless I backspace every time after entering the decimal in a negative number. This is very annoying.
The keyboard should only add a space after words or punctuation after the next word has been started, to prevent finishing a sentence and having to delete a final space that wasn't needed.
I think SwiftKey should have a "no auto space" option.
- When we press a suggested word, SwiftKey should insert the word and no space at all.
- When we press any punctuation, SwiftKey should insert the suggested word and the punctuation, but no space again.
- Just when we press space, SwiftKey inserts the word and a space after that.
What do you think? =)
To be able to turn on and off the auto spacing after every period and be able to make the choice of making the space bar longer!
It would be great for the "precise" users if a space wasn't automatically inserted after word completion. Also, arrow keys would be awesome.
Please provide option to turn off auto space after punctuation. Also an option on remove setting button to make space bar larger
After inserting a "." or question mark or comma, etc., it would be better if it didn't automatically insert a space. Most people like to press the spacebar themselves. This results in a lot of automatic inserts of words we don't want to use.
When a word is completed by hitting the prediction itself or the period button, a space is inserted behind.
When in the same paragraph, this is useful if additional text is entered.
However, when enter button is pressed to start a new paragraph or when user exits text input mode, the added space is redundant and sometimes even counterproductive.
Suggestion: remove last space in the following conditions:
- when exiting keyboard mode (e.g. by hitting android's back-button)
- when CR/line feed button is pressed
- when (semi) colon is inserted (otherwise, a space is inserted between last word and colon)
This is my favourite keyboard, but the auto space feature is sometimes very annoying.
Disabled autospace in generally. Sorry For my English.
I often type smileys, but because SwiftKey automatically enters a space behind a period it's really annoying to type smileys like: -.- or._. So could there be an option not to add a space behind a period
I'd prefer to enter a space myself when one is needed.
Instead of auto-typing a space after each word, a space would only be inserted after starting a new word. This would prevent leaving trailing spaces at the end of lines.
Having an auto space after every period mark is annoying at most times, like when trying to type smileys and similar. Also, customizable smileys would be appreciated a lot, thanks!
I often end up with double spaces after commas and other punctuation, like so << because of the auto space.
Aside from after completed words, I only want a space when I hit the spacebar.
As I choose a predicted word by pressing it, I really want this word without an automatic space added.
As I want a suggestion including a space i hit space bar to select the word.
Ki lehessen szedni az írásjel utáni automatikus szóközt.
If I am adding quotes around a word at the end of a sentence, when I add the ending punctuation it comes prior to the space. I then have to delete the space to insert the quote and when I add the quote, it doesn't re-add the space.
Example phrase:
I am going to the "store."
Making this work would require counting quotes so as to know that an even number is an ending and an odd number is a beginning but it's one of the first complaints that I've had on your awesome keyboard
Let me choose if I want the spacecraft to be automatically be pressed after I chose a word or not.
Simply put, what I wish for is a option to not insert a space after punctuation (period, comma, exclamation mark, etc) or prediction. Preferably one should be set the option for punctuation and prediction independently.
I am aware that there is already a request for this, but that request has been closed as "completed" while only the special case of version strings and IP addresses has been solved. There are still several other, equally (or more) important cases where there is a problem with automatically inserted spaces.
Possibly the case most recognisable independent of native language is that of host names. Many people (though probably still a minority) often write host names (e.g. foo.example.org) in plain text (sms, e-mail, web forms, etc). Automatically inserting spaces after punctuation makes writing host names often a real pain.
Another recognisable case is acronyms. When writing acronyms such as "e.g.", automatically inserting a space really doesn't help. (Here though, there is also a problem with inserting the current prediction on tapping the period key).
A less recognisable case is that of agglutinative where the use of compound words is extensive, ash is often the case in Germanic languages (my native language, Swedish, being one example). In agglutinative languages (many of which SwiftKey has support for in other respects), one is really often in the situation where the compound word is not in the dictionary (since there is a practically infinite number of combinations it is really impractical to store them all in a dictionary), but the separate parts of the word are. Here you would want to write the first word, then, starting a new word in the prediction logic, write the second one. An example of this in the English language could be the word "aftermarket". If this word was not already in SwiftKey's dictionary, one would want to start to write "after", choose the correct prediction when it comes up and then write "market" while getting predictions on "market" as a separate word.
The option to not automatically insert a space after punctuation and prediction would solve all of these cases and probably also others.
Option to disable smart space after manually selecting a word. I do not want a space after I select a word. Also a hide keyboard key would be nice as swiping does not always work well.
When I am entering data into a text field, and use SwiftKey prediction buttons to, for example, complete my email address, there is always a space at the end of it. When I leave the field and enter my password, and try to log in, some (badly designed) websites complain that the user credentials are not correct or invalid. This is because of the space at the end of the auto-completed email address. I then have to go back in and remove it before I can log in.
It would be really useful if Swiftkey was able to put a listener on losing focus on a text input field, and then trimming any additional white space. I realise that the issue is often with the badly designed websites, but this would help solve it.
Thanks,
Stephen
I know there is a way to do this by disabling auto caps, but many of us rely on that heavily. We really need a separate option for disabling this.
Give an option to disable auto-spacing after pressing the period key on the QWERTY keyboard. And a regular layout for the number and punctuations instead of all the number on the left and symbols on the right.
That's what swype does and i quite like that, and it'll not add spaces after email addresses (until you start typing another word).
When inserting a quotation mark SK should recognise, if there was another one before in the text. If not, the mark should be set without a succeeding auto-space (bla bla "cited text ...). If so, the mark should replace a possible auto-space before (bla bla "cited text<removed auto-space>").
1) The ability to disable auto-spacing for exclaimation/question marks, commas, full-stops etc. 2) Have a dedicated button to hide/show on-screen keyboard instead of swiping down 3) Whilst in symbol mode/menu, allow hitting the spacebar key to add a space PLUS automatically revert back to ABC mode to quickly resume typing once you have completed adding symbols [this is default on a lot of handsets that I've used so it should be default for SwiftKey X as well] 4) Remove the voice input icon from the settings key if you've selected not to activate voice input from the options [and vice versa if you have it activated]
Since the last request about this, that actually picked up some steam, was erroneously marked as completed without anything really being done, I guess we'll try this again.
This app needs an option to allow us to turn of auto-spacing COMPLETELY. i think we can handle our own spacing needs, thank you >.>
Would really like the option do disable/enable auto-space after punctuation. Was already suggested and had a lot of votes but has been closed as completed even if has been added the option to enable/disable auto-caps, not auto-space as requested by many users.
Stop auto space after "." so i can text friends to visit websites like "bored.com" or that my email address is "f.gulch@snail.mail.rr.ca" or for logging into an account with such an email address or username, etc.
Makes user name fail and searching can be wonky if the space is not erased.
Concerning text prediction for setting, "space bar will always insert a prediction": Upon hitting the space bar, the prediction should be completed, but no additional space should be added, so that the suffix can be completed. For example, I want to write “pleases,” the prediction is please, I hit the space bar, and then finish the ending without having to backspace to finish it.
Swift insists in adding a space after periods.
I can not find any option to gurn tbis off.
Please fix this.
Now, after every word that you select, they would put in a spacing. In fact when you press any punctuation, they make a auto-spacing too. Some people like me are not used to it. Please allow disable!
It's convenient to have a space put in automatically after typing a sentence, but it does that sometimes when I don't want it, so I have to backspace to put in the letter I want. Can an option be added to not do that?
Add an option to remove the auto-space after selecting a prediction. I want to be able to choose.
Make it so when we put a . it doesn't automatically put a space in
Sometimes I need to type an email address that contains a period and no space after it, but SK automatically inserts an unwanted space and continues to suggest that the space is necessary when the exact opposite is true. If there is a space, like SK suggests, then I am no longer able to send an email to that address. I have to change my input settings to Smart and then copy and paste so there will not be a space after the period in the middle of the email address.
When typing an email address SwiftKey should not add spaces before and after the @ symbol, so it will be easier and faster to type email addresses
When tapping Enter for a new line/paragraph, auto-space just added to the last word in the previous line should be removed.
I would like an option to disable the auto-space after a prediction is selected. This should apply to all options, if it be from tapping the prediction or using space.
I would love to see that the "@" symbol be treated like punctuation, where the character attaches itself to the previous entry. Also the automatic space would be disabled as well. This would make it much easier to enter email addresses.
Make auto–space when selecting aprediction optional... Only auto–space when double tapping a prediction.
I don't like how SwiftKey adds a space after periods and commas.
After many years used to add a space after dots and commas I usually make mistakes typing with SwiftKey because it auto adds the space and gets ready for the next prediction, and so I finally write predicted word without even realizing. It just happened again: I wanted to write: 'so I finally' and has got 'and so finally'
A thing I dislike is the automatically added space after choosing a prediction. Better would be to not enter spaces automatically after choosing a prediction, untill the user starts to type or put an other prediction.
This is handy for when I choose my email adres as a prediction, I now have to constantly remove the space in order to login somewhere for instance.
when you enter a search term (e.g. searching in contacts or a filename in Astro) you don't find anything until you realize that it was because the keyboard has added a space.
Also it just feels funny to end a paragraph or a message with a space because a full stop or an added word is always followed by a space.
The keyboard should be able to check if the last character was a space and delete it before the return-key action is taken.
for those of us coming from native keyboards or just used to hitting space.
There should be an option to disable the automatic spaces insertion after periods. I often text and email links to people, and typing in something as simple as "amazon. Com" is extremely frustrating to fix. A simple option in settings to disable automatic spaces after periods would solve the issue. If I want to quickly insert a period and a space, I just double-tap space bar.
When selecting a prediction a space is automatically inserted after the word. If I then enter a comma/period this is correctly inserted before the space (immediately after the word). However if after selecting a prediction I enter a semi-colon (or colon) it is inserted after the space which is obviously incorrect.
Can these punctuation marks please behave in the same way as the others?
Many webforms don't accept trailing spaces in zip codes and other locations. Some apps don't either. I suggest adding the trailing space only after entering a new character, so if I just typed a word and used space to pick the current suggestion, the space isn't actually added until I start typing a new word.
It's kind of what happens if you type a . or a , after a prediction, but instead of removing the space that was just added, just don't add it at all at the end of the line.
Adding an ending quote (parenthesis, bracket, etc.) should always delete the space before it.
So it defaults to "hello" instead of "hello " - is there any case where anyone would want that space in there?
I was hoping either of the two would be an option in this new version...guess not. Anyway, the two options I'm looking for specifically are:
-Disable how Swiftkey adds a period at the end of the last word, and then deletes any space after it except one. For example, I'll type "Why" and want to type the "._." emoticon, but in order to do that, I have to add a period at the end of the word, type "_.", delete the space between the first period and the "_", add a space between that period and the word, and finally, delete the space created by the second period.
-Disable how Swiftkey adds a space after every prediction (perhaps long-pressing a prediction could do this). Sometimes Swiftkey will predict an emoticon I want to add ("D:" particularly), but by automatically inserting spaces between the letters/symbols, I then have to go back and delete all those spaces.
If anything, could there just be a general option that would make spaces completely manual or something? It's the one thing that's keeping me from constantly looking for other keyboards, because it's that annoying of a "feature."
When pressing the space key to auto-complete I want a space after the word. When I select the word from the list I want there to be no space automatically. I think this should be an option.
Auto-spacing is now disabled if:
you start to enter a number
you write www. (indicating that you are entering a URL)
you use the @symbol (indicating that you are writing an email address)
Auto-spacing is now disabled if:
you start to enter a number
you write “www.” (indicating that you are entering a URL)
you use the @symbol (indicating that you are writing an email address)
Auto-spacing is now disabled if you start to enter a number.
You can turn off the AutoCaps option in the latest version of SwiftKey X and SwiftKey Tablet X. (Versions 2.1+)
Auto-spacing is automatically disabled if you start to enter a number.
This suggestion is now under review. Thanks for your input and watch this space for more updates :-)

Re: "has been corrected." Almost. In many forms, something is just not right. See...---> emailpaulnow@gmail. Com
All that's fun but with no arrow keys or delete key, getting that auto space out is really more help than its worth. Can we disable all auto spaces? Its OK I know you want to be engineered the best, but to make tapping a big huge space bar obsolete: just to have dead links all over the web and the pleasure of getting my cursor back in front so I can backspace out your forced space seems a tad pointless. I feel confident we can all find that rectangle, offer it a quick tap when needed, and proceed on. If I am not mistaken, this is way easier. Good luck with your work. Oh, just entered my email address to submit the form. Space added, error upon send "invalid email address" who's with me.

I'm regularily typing hostnames that don't begin with www as well as usernames and emails that have a period before the @ sign.
This is in my view the only major flaw with SwiftKey. Please address this issue more completely!

Some Email addresses I type have a period before the @, so a space is added where not needed.

It seems that the Swiftkey support people are not listening to their customers. I will tell why auto-space after punctuation is a bad idea:
1. Support says "Auto-spacing is disabled if you write www. ((indicating that you are entering a URL)", heck I don't even write www while I am on my PC / Laptop. Writing it on tiny buttons of mobile - no way.
2. Support says "Auto-spacing is disabled if I use the @symbol (indicating that you are writing an email address)". Again a bad idea because many users have their email IDs as abc.xyz@gmail.com. Then what?
3. Space bar is probably the easiest key to use on mobile because it large and not that easy to miss. Automating that seems absurd.
I would recommend SwiftKey's developers to listen to their customers.

I understand that email addresses and URLs not at the beginning of a sentence do not make a space but if I want to type a decimal. For example,. 5 doesn't work without the 0. Simple things that I would simply rather all punctuation have no automatic space just like EVERY OTHER CHARACTER

How is this not just a simple On/Off switch in the keyboard settings menu already? I keep reinstalling it after each new version comes out hoping it's changed, but this is the one thing that keeps making me disable/uninstall the keyboard again every time. You can make it as smart as you want whenever the option is enabled, like the most recent admin response appears to be referring to, but for those of us that just don't want it to put automatic spaces at all, why not just let us turn it off?

I want to use SwiftKey - I keep trying it, but this issue is hugely annoying and is a deal killer. Add the fact that this request has been "under review" for almost two years despite overwhelming user requests makes me believe SwiftKey doesn't care beyond adding flashy features to sell more licenses. I'm out...

Because of this I cannot even enter passwords on remote systems. SwiftKey puts a space after every punctuation, that I cannot even notice because in a password field you only see dots to hide the characters.

Recent email from SwiftKey:
"After months of hard work and collaboration between our developers and community, we’re proud to officially unveil the world’s smartest touchscreen keyboard - SwiftKey 4 - featuring SwiftKey Flow."
HAHAHAHAHAHA! " ... world's smartest touchscreen keyboard ... " - what a load of garbage. Talk yourself up a bit there why don't you. You can't even implement a feature which lets us disable the auto-space - something far more simple then a theme, which would actually offer many people much greater flexibility and efficiency then a new theme.
Far from being the world's smartest - but whatever makes you feel good about yourself I guess.
What a joke!

@Sarah Reynolds, just disabling when @is enter does not help when the email looks like:
firstname.lastname@
we will habe a space and auto caps for lastname in this case... :
firstname. Lastname@
so why cant you just give us an option to temporary or permanently disable autospace all time like you've implemented with autocaps....
