echoing the other sentiments on this forum. The auto-detection is broken. I am in Canada and using UK spellings. Showing Pounds rather than dollar sign.

Sarah Reynolds, there's a problem with Australia, still showing the pound sign.

Thanks Kevin for the work around, but I would still prefer a proper solution from the devs. What is happening guys?

Never mind, this issue is fixed by going into your phones language settings and selecting English (US), not the SwiftKey settings.

Still waiting for this option its no fun to hold this key if using a lot the $ sign, hope its soon.

As many are saying, I prefer to use UK English as my locale, but as a Canadian, I work in dollars, not pounds. A custom setting would be much better.

I really hope this becomes an option soon. I live in Singapore and we use English (UK) but our currency is the Singapore Dollar! going through all the longpress and swiping just makes the whole typing process less intuitive..

Some English speakers don't live in England... This is a problem.

Irish user here, first language English. £ is the default symbol on my x key. Come on SwiftKey, the euro has been around long enough to get this right.

Why is it so hard to give us option to choose which currency we want if you can get it right?
It always shows me $ instead €, even in Slovenia and in Croatia.

The currency symbol in Australia using English (AU) shows as a £ when it should be a $ by default.

Another user from Singapore here. We use UK English spelling for $ dollar symbol for currency. Come on, SwiftKey. I'm a loyal fan and s/w evangelist of your keyboard. Please fix this long outstanding defect already. Thank you!

If the currency symbol is chosen from the locale, why am I getting an euro € sign if I'm not in Europe but in South America? I should be getting $... This should be a setting

      • wilflarewilflare commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I'm from Singapore and is currently using English (UK)... I would prefer to be able to choose the dollar sign too

Please add the option for Australians who use UK English spelling to use the dollar symbol not the stupid pound sign. Yes I know I can long press but that is hardly a "swift" way of doing it.

For everyone who uses English (UK) as a language but $ as currency.
I got around it by changing the Android system language to English (US) and the swiftkey language to English (AU). This way my keyboard spells in UK English but uses the $ as the default currency key. Should work fine with other swiftkey languages substituted.

Yeah, you answered in Aug 2011 but there is no option about it today, Aug 2013.
